Join the Mission: Become a Volunteer

Volunteering at Winchester Rescue Mission is about more than just filling a shift—it is about building relationships, respecting dignity, and offering hope to those experiencing homelessness and poverty in our community.

Whether you are greeting a guest, helping prepare a meal, or organizing donations, your time directly sustains the daily rhythms of Winchester Rescue Mission. We are so grateful you are here.

PLEASE NOTE: Winchester Rescue Mission’s volunteer program does not participate in court-ordered community service. However, a neighboring community partner—"Our Health"—may be able to help you. [Click here to go to their page]

When We Need You Most

To serve our guests effectively, our operational needs are highly specific. While we do have some weekend opportunities to serve lunch and dinner, our most critical volunteer needs start during weekday daytime hours (Monday – Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM). If you are someone with daytime flexibility, we urgently need your help!

Our Current Top Priority Needs:

If you have weekday daytime availability, here is where you can make the biggest impact:

  • The Welcome Desk: Be the warm, welcoming first impression at our front doors on Valley Avenue.

  • Lunch Service: Help our kitchen team prepare, serve, and clean up our midday meals.

  • Food Runs: Hit the road to pick up vital donations that keep our pantry and the Cameron Market stocked.

Nervous about getting started? Don't be! We know stepping into a new role can feel intimidating. After going through our general volunteer orientation, if you would prefer to watch and learn before taking on a shift by yourself, just contact Emily (see contact info below) to set up a time to shadow a veteran volunteer first!

3 Steps to Get Started

1. Register for an Orientation | All new volunteers attend an in-person orientation to learn about our mission, tour the facility, and understand our core guidelines. Click one of the dates below to register.

2. Download the POINT App | During orientation, we will help you get set up on POINT, our volunteer scheduling app for your phone.

3. Claim a Shift | Once you are in the system, you can easily view and claim available shifts that perfectly fit your schedule!
